The Štrekna Cycling Trail

Štrekna

Štrekna is an approximately 35-kilometre-long, fully asphalted cycling route laid out along the abandoned route of the former railway line between Velenje and Dravograd. It offers a peaceful and safe ride, separated from motor traffic, together with beautiful views of Pohorje, Uršlja Gora and the surrounding valleys, making it an excellent choice for families, seniors and recreational cyclists.

Štrekna is an easy and safe cycling route, suitable for all generations, while also offering a beautiful insight into the technical heritage of the former railway, with preserved structures along the route. Along the way, there are numerous rest areas with benches, tables, information boards, drinking fountains and other infrastructure for a comfortable break. In summer, the Štrekna Bus with a bicycle trailer also runs between Velenje and Dravograd, making it easier to return to the starting point.

The cycling route offers many possibilities for trips and combinations — from Lake Velenje and cycling among the Šalek Lakes to the natural swimming area in Radlje ob Dravi, and further across the border to the swimming area by the Drava River near Lavamünd, which is connected by a well-maintained cycling route. In Dravograd, Štrekna connects to the Drava Cycling Route (Drava Bike), allowing you to continue towards Radlje ob Dravi, Maribor or even further along the Drava Valley.
